Our Data Use Policy explains our approach to data, points include: 

  • Business locations, owner and worker contact information

  • Premises identification numbers and boundaries

  • Inventories (livestock, feed, medicines, etc)

  • Account holder CCIA account number

  • Individual animal identifications

  • Events (add, remove (sale/death), pedigree, movement, sale, breeding, measures, scoring, health) of account owner’s choosing

  • Photographs and documents (e.g. vet prescription, visitor log)

  • Comments

  • Cost/revenue data

3. Ownership

Do the tech company’s agreements with the user address ownership of user data? 

Yes. You are the owner of your Data. AgSights believes that ownership should give you the right to share, download, and delete your Data.

AgSights is the owner of any aggregated data, which is anonymized to remove your personal information.

Clients agree up front that data on animals, excluding ownership and economic data, moves with the animal to new owners. Data added by those owners, likewise, moves backward to previous owners.

4. Transparency in Aggregation

Does the tech company allow the user to opt out of inclusion in anonymized and aggregated datasets that are accessible by other users? 

No. We share our data use policy at sign on and expect users to let us know if they have concerns with anonymized or aggregate use. AgSights works to offer value to our members from the insight of projects and aggregate dataset learnings.

5. Vendor Access to Data

Does the tech company require outside contractors that have access to user data to follow the tech company’s data policies? 

Yes. All companies that provide services to AgSights and as a result have access to your Data must also abide by our Data Use Policy.

6. Consent

Does the tech company obtain a user’s consent before sharing user data with third parties? (E.g. integrations, government and others)

Yes. Data is shared with the University of Guelph for research purposes only.  Client’s personal data is never shared with companies beyond AgSights and if it were to be, client approval would be required.

7. Consent

By signing up, does the user give the tech company the right to sell aggregated data to third parties without obtaining further consent?

No. AgSights does not sell aggregated data to third parties. We work through collaborative arrangements that bring value to our members.

8. Portability 

Does the tech company maintain an original copy of user data that can be retrieved or deleted upon a user’s request? 

Yes. Upon request, a copy of your data shall be returned to you in a manner determined by AgSights.  Details are clearly outlined in AgSights Data Use Policy.

9. Data Security

Will the tech company notify the user if a breach of data security causes disclosure of the user’s data to an outside party?  

Yes. In the event of a data breach, natural disaster, or other unforeseen event that causes your Data to be deleted or compromised, AgSights will notify you by email or as required by law.

10. Notice

Will the tech company notify the user when data agreements are changed and summarize how the agreements were changed? 

Yes. AgSights clients will be notified of any changes to our Data Use Policy or Terms and Conditions. At that time, clients will have the opportunity to choose whether or not to continue using the system.

11. Changes in Company Ownership

Do the tech company’s data agreements address what happens to user data if the tech company is sold to another company?

Yes. AgSights is a not for profit co-operative and so any sale is highly unlikely. Should that become a reality, each AgSights client would be given the opportunity to continue services with the new owner or choose to have their service discontinued and have their data returned and/or deleted.
