Farmers and entities with whom the farmer chooses to share their farm data such as ag retailers, ag professionals (e.g. agronomists) and ag service providers, are the primary users.

What categories of data does the data platform collect?  

  • Agronomic Data 

  • Farm Management Data                               

  • Land Data

  • Machine Data

  • Weather and Climate Data

Agronomic Data. This may include crop and field information, such as planting data, seed type, yield, disease and pest management application, fertilization, and prescriptions.

Farm Management Data. This may include information related to work tasks, commodity price, yield projections, regulatory compliance, supply chain, and other management data.

Land Data. This may include soil and fertility data, topographical, elevation, watershed, and drainage data.

Machine Data. This may include GPS position information, speed of travel, compliance data for spray coverage, seeding, tillage and nutrient coverage.

Weather and Climate Data.  This may include weather observations such as temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, wind speed and wind direction.

3. Ownership

Do the tech company’s agreements with the user address ownership of user data? 

Yes. Pessl Instruments GmbH confirms in its Data Privacy Policy that the data collected from, and analyzed for you is your data, and you own the data and have the right to share, download and delete such data at your discretion.

4. Transparency in Aggregation

Does the tech company allow the user to opt out of inclusion in anonymized and aggregated datasets that are accessible by other users? 

No. Anonymized and aggregated datasets are used in products and services provided to farmers and others, including forecasts, models, maps, etc.

By agreeing to the service Terms of Use, the user agrees that the data generated as a user of the service can be included in these anonymized and aggregated datasets.

5. Vendor Access to Data

Does the tech company require outside contractors that have access to user data to follow the tech company’s data policies? 

Yes. Outside contractors may be used in ongoing operations.

When third parties that perform services for us require access to your data, they are required to follow data protection principles which are substantially similar to those in our Privacy Statement.

6. Consent

Does the tech company obtain a user’s consent before sharing user data with third parties? (E.g. integrations, government and others)

Yes. We do not share non-anonymized data with third parties, except those that perform services on our behalf, such as running our systems, sending communications for us, and executing marketing programs and promotions for us. Statement.

We will not share information about you with any non-affiliated third-party vendor or website owner for their marketing purposes without your consent.

7. Consent

By signing up, does the user give the tech company the right to sell aggregated data to third parties without obtaining further consent?

No. Aggregated data is not sold to third parties.

However, such data is used to enhance forecasts, crop / disease models, and other data products which are sold to other customers.

8. Portability 

Does the tech company maintain an original copy of user data that can be retrieved or deleted upon a user’s request? 

Yes. Pessl Instruments maintains a copy of the user’s data that is retrievable by the user while they are a customer.  The user has the right to delete their data at any point.

9. Data Security

Will the tech company notify the user if a breach of data security causes disclosure of the user’s data to an outside party?  

Yes. We shall notify you if any of your personal or non-generic data is inadvertently disclosed to a third party. We takes great care to ensure your data is secure but also recognizes there is a risk of a data breach due to a cyber-attack.

10. Notice

Will the tech company notify the user when data agreements are changed and summarize how the agreements were changed? 

Yes. We agree to notify the user of when data agreements have changed from time to time. This is done when logging into the FieldClimate desktop applications.

11. Changes in Company Ownership

Do the tech company’s data agreements address what happens to user data if the tech company is sold to another company?

Yes. Any successor of Metos Canada would have the same rights and obligations with regard to customers’ data as Metos Canada does today.
